This Forum is dedicated to Roshen Ali Bhimjee, a much gifted and successful Life Insurance Underwriter in India, who chose to make Pakistan his home when British India was partitioned into two independent dominions, i.e India and Pakistan. Mr. Bhimjee was rare human, a business visionary, yet embodying a spirit of caring sharing for fellow humans. In 1961 he was invited to take the helm of Eastern Federal Union Insurance Company Limited, an enterprise founded in 1932 by a variegated group united by a desire to do good. The Company had done well in the run up to the partition, had also decided to move to Pakistan when British India was divided. It had done well for a few years in its new home too, but in the early fifties, a slide had begun, and the Company's fortunes had taken a nosedive. Mr. Bhimjee accepted the challenge of becoming the master of a ship that was sinking. He went on to make Eastern Federal the 2nd. largest insurance services provider in the Afro-Asian region, second only to Japan. Pakistan nationalized the Life Insurance business as part of an economic reforms package in 1972. By that time, Eastern Federal held the lion's share of Life Insurance business in the country and had instituted many innovative business strategies. After the nationalization, left only with the General Insurance business and its assets, Eastern Federal was reorganized in a scientific manner, was renamed as EFU General, and continues to be Pakistan's Flagship insurance brand, and is now the core of Pakistan's most experienced, diversified, and largest insurance services providing group. Mr. Bhimjee was by nature an evangelist, and his message was responsibility wedded to a spirit of caring and sharing. Membership to these Forums is FREE and always will be.
